Topalov Beats World Chess Champion in the Grand Slam Bilbao

World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand lost to Veselin Topalov in the 4th round of the chess tournament Grand Slam Final Masters in Bilbao, Spain. Norwegian wunderkind Magnus Carlsen defeated Teimour Radjabov and took Anand spot as the number one chess player in the world. Yet, Topalov one point advantage over Carlsen ensures his victory and the €400,000 prize.

The first three rounds of the Bilbao Grand Slam Final Masters chess tournament seem uneventful comparing to the 4th round. Consisted of three games, the action-packed 4th round of the Grand Slam might leave a mark on the world's top chess ranking list. Anand, the number 1 chess player lost to Bulgarian chess player Topalov in what seemed to be his fastest loss within exact 25 moves.

Simultaneously, 17 years old Carlsen accumulated another remarkable victory, and Levon Aronian of Armenia outplayed Vassily Ivanchuk of Ukraine in a game that otherwise would have ended in a draw. Though officially, Viswanathan Anand is still the number one chess player in the world, his loss and Carlsen win, pushed the latter up to the first position, making him the youngest ever chess player to make it to the number 1 spot of FIDE's Top Players listing, (providing he would continue reaping victories until the release of FIDE official ranking list on October 1st).
